🔮 PREDICTION OF THE WEEK

Bill negotiation’s 40% cut will collapse into flat fees and credits.

AI bill negotiation agents phone your cable company, fight the charge and keep a slice of whatever they save you.

The evidence: production voice stacks run $0.07 to $0.24 per minute all-in, so a 30-minute negotiation costs a few dollars. Kudos Premium already lets members keep 100% of savings while incumbents take 35% to 60% of first-year savings.

🎧 LISTEN TO

How Did a Bootstrapped 2-Person Team Outlast a Competitor That Raised $10M?

A 2-person bootstrapped team outlasted a rival that raised $10M. Paperbell won by finding the right customers and marketing to them while the funded competitor over-built the product.

  • Put energy into marketing over engineering bloat when the market suits bootstrappers. The incumbent over-invested in the product while Paperbell focused on finding buyers.
  • Build only what customers need and skip the feature arms race. A large engineering org didn’t help to outmarket a lean operator who knew their buyers.
  • Pick markets where venture upmarket scaling isn’t needed to win. Paperbell chose customers and a category that punished the funded competitor’s spending model.

☁️ OPPORTUNITY OF THE WEEK

Run a property-tax appeal agent one county deep.

Property-tax appeal agents file protests, pull comps and show up at county hearings for homeowners who overpaid on their assessment.

Ownwell raised $50 million on an 86% success rate and a 25% contingency fee. In Texas alone, 200,000+ properties it appealed belonged to owners who had never protested before.

National players skip counties with quirky deadlines and hearing norms. A solo operator who owns one county’s data wins where the giant spreads thin.

❔ ASK YOURSELF

What Are Your 4,000 Weeks Actually For?

AI saves you an hour and then that hour fills with more work. Founders need to decide what saved time is for before the efficiency trap turns speed into a longer to-do list.

  • Decide what saved AI time is for. Faster email means more threads unless you block the new capacity from expanding your task list.
  • Pick meaningful activity in the present instead of deferring satisfaction to a future self who never arrives.
  • Protect the parts of your craft you enjoy and stop automating into roles you hate. Writers who loved drafting become editors of AI output; coders become debuggers.

📈 REPORT FLASHBACK

AI agents, called when the demos were toys.

In July 2023 the proof points were founders running AutoGPT on $100 budgets to research startup ideas. The calls underneath were serious. Entrepreneurs would delegate real business tasks to agents. Agent-made content would flood the internet.

Both landed. 79% of companies told PwC in 2025 they’d adopted AI agents. AI-written articles passed human-written ones as a share of new web pages in November 2024.

The gap that remains is depth: 11% run an agent in production, so the era the report described is still early.

That was Report #0118, from July 2023. Check out the AI Agents report.
