🔮 PREDICTION OF THE WEEK
AI game generators will cap free game making or start charging for it.
AI game generators are apps where you type a game idea into a box, play it minutes later and publish it for strangers to play. Astrocade and Roblox let you make games free while they pay for the computing behind every draft.
Rec Room, a social game platform once valued at $3.5 billion, kept its prompt tool inside each user’s room because wider use would leave it “financially upside down on each player.” It shut down in June 2026.
Google caps each world made in its Project Genie at 60 seconds. Makers who draft dozens of games and publish none will hit the limit first.

How Does Annual Billing Hand You an Infinite Ad Budget?
Spend $80 to win $10 of MRR at a 67% margin and you wait 12 months to break even. Collect the year up front and the $80 arrives first.
- Work out your payback period. CAC divided by MRR x Gross Margin. At $80, $10 and 67%, that’s 12 months of waiting.
- Collect the year today. The same customer pays $120 now. That’s an infinite marketing budget, because the ad is funded before it runs.
- Expect churn to hold steady. Annual plans leave the cancellation rate where it was. They sort the customers likely to stay from the ones likely to leave.

☁️ OPPORTUNITY OF THE WEEK
Ship Korean birth-chart readings in EnRun ChatGPT ad campaigns for the small advertisers who cannot run them alone.
OpenAI opened self-serve ChatGPT ads to US businesses on May 5, 2026, removed its $50,000 minimum and reached Europe in August. Tens of thousands of advertisers signed up and the big agency groups, WPP and Omnicom, are partnered for the large accounts. Small advertisers face a new platform, new bidding rules and no benchmark. No one is there to help them.
One firm, Kone.vc, already sells itself as an OpenAI channel partner for small businesses, so the agency form exists. Pick one vertical, build one landing page template and publish a cost-per-click benchmark the client can check against OpenAI’s own case studies. Charge a flat monthly fee tied to spend, starting with 10 clients.

❔ ASK YOURSELF
What Did $20,000 and 1 Server Turn Into?
Cliff Sentell and two partners put in $20,000 each and bought a single server in 2005.
They started by charging patients a monthly fee to look up hidden healthcare costs, then pivoted to selling that price-finding service directly to employers.
- Sell to whoever holds the budget. The consumer version flopped. Compass reached about $1 million in revenue in 3-4 years.
- Keep the equity when growth shows up. They turned down growth equity investors to keep control. The company scaled to roughly $30 to $40 million with 200 employees.
- Treat what you know as the moat. Sentell’s claim: add AI to domain expertise others can’t match and the moat gets wider.
📈 REPORT FLASHBACK
Play-and-earn games, called the month after Axie Infinity peaked.
In December 2021 we said games that pay players in crypto tokens would bring millions, then billions, of people into crypto. Axie Infinity, a battle game whose tokens players sold for cash, led our list.
It had peaked at 2.7 million daily players that November. In March 2022 hackers stole $625 million from the network that players used to move money in and out of the game. By April 2023 daily players were down to about 250,000.
We were right that people would earn from games. We were wrong that a crypto token would pay them. Roblox paid its creators $1.5 billion in cash in 2025.
That was Trends PRO #0077, Play-and-Earn. See the games we listed in 2021.
